A time of joy, peace and sadness?

happiness-frontFor most people the holidays are about jingle bells and shopping hells, parties and singing and running around for last minute gifts. Even amidst the most stressful time and long hours of wrapping and icing and card signing, we still have a sense of joy and peace and childlike excitement about the magic of the season.

But for many, this time of year brings up feelings of sadness, loneliness and despair. Whether its because of a loss of a loved one, or the memory of a tragic event or simply depression over the shortened days, this time of year can be pretty tough for people to get through – especially amongst all the “cheer” that is all around.

If you are one of those that enjoy the holidays, but find yourself cursing the fact that it is 1:00 am on December 23rd and you are still shopping online for last minute gifts, count yourself lucky, blessed, special, etc. Also, try to remember those that may be having a hard time and take some time to send them a note that says “hang in there”.

If you happen to be someone who dreads this time of year, just remember that it WILL be over soon and the days will be longer and spring is just around the corner. And don’t feel bad about feeling bad. Embrace  your sadness or loneliness or depression and allow yourself to be “bah-humbug” if you need to. Just don’t let it last all year long!
